Coughing in horses can indicate respiratory disease and affects horses of all ages and breeds. Key steps include taking a detailed history, conducting a physical exam, and performing diagnostic tests. Observe the respiratory rate and effort, and check for fever, abnormal bloodwork, and lung appearance on ultrasound or radiographs.
